Data Driven Assessments

We are committed to providing all of our students with the education they need to succeed and to do that, we must accurately measure their progress. Castle High School is committed to providing our students with everything they need to perform well academically. We use testing and assessment data to improve our methods and to better prepare our students for life after graduation.

9 – 12 Testing

This test is designed to measure the performance of English language learners as they progress through their K-12 education and work towards achieving English language proficiency.

Each OELPA grade band test includes four tests: listening, reading, writing and speaking. OELPA is administered to the following grade bands:

-Kindergarten; grade 1; grades 2-3; grades 4-5; grades 6-8 and; grades 9-12

The AASCD is aligned to Ohio’s Academic Content Standards–Extended (OACS-E) and designed to allow students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in an appropriately rigorous assessment The AASCD will be administered by grade band (3-5, 6-8, HS).

Students in grades 3, 4, 6, and 7 will be assessed in English language arts and mathematics. Students in grades 5 and 8 will be assessed in English language arts, mathematics and science. Students taking the HS-AASCD will be assessed in English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.

The primary purpose of growth assessments is to provide an objective tool to measure growth in student achievement in both reading and mathematics. Growth assessments in Math & Reading will be administer once during the fall, winter, and spring.

Ohio state tests tell us how well our students are growing in the knowledge and skills outlined in Ohio’s Learning Standards. These tests help guide and strengthen future teaching so we can be sure that we are preparing our students for long-term success in school, college, careers and life.

Test results also allow community members to know how their local schools are performing compared to others around the state.

Grades 9 – 12 can participate in ELA I, ELA II, Algebra I, Geometry, Integrated Math I, Integrated Math II, Biology, American History, American Government to earn at minimum 18 points. Students must earn a minimum of 4 math points, 4 English points, and 6 social studies/science points.

The Ohio Graduation Tests are based upon Ohio's Learning Standards, which the State Board of Education adopted in English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. These standards were designed to ensure that students are armed with the knowledge they need to be successful in higher educational pursuits as well as for future potential jobs and careers.

Current law requires students who first enrolled in grade 9 before July 1, 2014, to take and pass the Ohio Graduation Tests (OGT) to earn a high school diploma. To provide flexibility for individuals who need to complete OGT requirements, the OGT will be administered as an online test beginning with the 2018-2019 school year until its final administration in 2022. There will be three online opportunities per year (September through July) to take any of the required subject tests of the OGT.
